Find out about how to get to East Malaysia
Flights (Returning mentors will be contacted separately regarding flights)
You will need to send us three quotes for flights to East Malaysia (please check the arrival city with us if you’re not sure). We’ll let you know which one is approved so that you can book it – remember to keep all receipts. We will then reimburse your travel costs soon after arrival. All reimbursements are made locally in MYR to your local bank account which you will set up after arrival.
If you are transferring from another British Council office, please ask them to arrange your travel and contact us for approval and charging instructions. If there is a reason why you cannot provide us with three quotes or pay for the flights yourself, let us know.
Immigration
Please note, you should normally have an onward air ticket to get a tourist pass for Malaysia on arrival. As you will not have this onward ticket, you MUST ensure that you have a copy of your contract with you for the flight as well as the letter from the Ministry of Education which we will provide nearer the time. This isn't often checked in Malaysia on arrival (and not at all in Sarawak), but some airlines may refuse boarding/check-in without this.
