THERE WILL BE CERTAIN THINGS THAT YOU ARE RECOMMENDED TO BRING WITH YOU TO SAVE TIME AND HELP PROCESSES DURING THE INDUCTION WEEK (BANKS, IMMIGRATION, ETC).
Again, this list may not be accurate as processes do change, but it is better to have as much warning as possible as we appreciate that some of these may take some time to get hold of. As processes do sometimes change, we advise that you look at this list and aim to bring a few more copies of things like passports and passport-sized photos if possible.
Please bear in mind that although the BUPA healthcare covers you (and accompanying dependants) from the first day of your contract, baggage insurance is your own responsibility.
We would really appreciate your efforts in bringing:
- Your passport! Check that it is valid for at least 6 months from date of entry (requirement for immigration) and has plenty of blank pages. If it will expire before the end of your contract, or you only have a few blank pages left, check what additional documents (such as birth certificate) you will need to bring to apply for a new passport from your embassy in Malaysia. Doing this before you come will save a lot of logistical problems later!
- 8 passport-sized photos (identical pics, white background, 35mm x 45mm)
- 5 copies of your passport data page
- If you have a driving licence, please apply for and bring an international driving licence as it is very challenging to convert to a Malaysian driving licence (for UK residents, see website here for info on getting this from the Post Office)
- Original professional certificates (diploma, PGCE, TEFL cert etc). Also, please bring 1 copy of each. (For returning staff, you don't need to bring the originals as we have already seen them but you will still need to bring copies for Immigration).
- Mobile phone handset if you can - dual band phones work in Malaysia.
- Your CV and/or resume (one printed copy)
- Some money in Malaysian ringgit (see here for more info).
- Your contract template which will be sent via softcopy (email) prior to the induction. You will sign the original contract when you are here for the induction.
-
Your health clearance form if you haven't been able to return it via softcopy.
- Mosquito repellent, long sleeve tops, long trousers etc to keep the bugs at bay.
- Letter from the Ministry of Education – There may be a delay in receiving this. We will send it to you as soon as possible, but do not worry if you do not receive this before you set off for Malaysia
- Onward ticket out of Malaysia - We will send this to you.
In addition to the above bits and pieces, please make sure that your spouse/partner/dependants who are not at secondary school, college or university also bring:
- 8 passport-sized photos (identical pics, white background, 35mm x 45mm)
- 1 copy of passport data page
- Original birth certificate (for children only) and marriage or common law certificate (if relevant)
For dependants under the age of 18 who will be attending secondary school, college or university (not for primary):
- 8 passport-sized photos (identical pics, white background, 35mm x 45mm)
- 1 copy of passport data page
- 1 extra copy of parents'/guardians' passport data page(s)
- If the child will live in Malaysia with a guardian while the parent(s) reside overseas, a cover letter from the parent.
- Original birth certificate
