Re-scheduling and cancellation policy for those affected by Covid-19
IELTS
If you cancel your IELTS test up to five weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration fee of 25% of the test fee.
Please note that refunds can take four to six weeks to process.
No refunds will be allowed for IELTS within five weeks of the test date. Exemptions from this policy are:
- serious illness or medical incident (such as hospital admission or a major injury)
- bereavement – loss of a close family member
- hardship or trauma (such as being a victim of crime or involved in a traffic accident)
- military service.
To cancel your IELTS (Academic and General Training) test, please log in to the Test Taker Portal and submit a cancellation request, along with an upload of supporting documentation/evidence. Once completed, please drop an email on the same to info@britishcouncil.org.my
If a medical certificate confirming illness on the date of the test is provided within five working days of the test date, together with the submitted cancellation request on the Test Taker Portal, the fee is refundable, minus an administration fee of 25%.
Only medical certificates in English are accepted. If we have not received your submitted cancellation request along with an upload of supporting documentation/evidence on the Test Taker Portal or the email, you will be marked as absent and forfeit all claims.
Please note that we do not accept sick notes issued by family members.
School Exams
- Refunds will only be processed upon provision of an official receipt from British Council.
- Registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Examination fee cannot be transferred between examination sessions.
- An administration fee will be deducted from the refund.
- Non-attendance from either part or whole examination session without any valid reason will not be entitled for any refunds.
- A refund may be possible in case where candidate is unable to attend any exam sitting due to either:
- Illness – e.g. serious illness, hospital admission or injury (does not include minor illnesses such as a mild cold). Candidates must provide a medical certificate.
- Loss or bereavement – death of a close family member
- Hardship / trauma – victim of crime, victim of a traffic accident
- National / Military service
Professional and University Exams
- Refunds will only be processed upon provision of an official receipt from British Council.
- Registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- As a general rule no refunds will be made to candidates or Examination Boards in respect of the local fee charged by the British Council for professional examinations.
- However in some extenuating circumstances, the British Council will issue a refund for a professional exam where the candidate has paid the local fee directly to the British Council.
- Such circumstances would include instances of death in the immediate family, a serious accident and unexpected or severe circumstances.
- This decision to refund and the percentage of the refund is at the discretion of the British Council.
- An administration fee will be deducted from the refund.
- Candidates are requested to submit a completed refund form along with the appropriate supporting evidence i.e. medical certificate, local chairman/commissioner certificate, death certificate, police report within five working days of the test date to their local British Council Office.
NB. Candidates requiring a refund of board fees should contact the institution directly.
