The British Council in Malaysia is supporting the Second Phase of the UK-Malaysia University Consortium from 2024 to 2026. To kick-off this continuation phase, we launched the 2024 UK-Malaysia University Consortium Grant for Innovative Partnerships. This grant aims to further support the consortia to develop innovative collaborative initiatives that benefit UKMUC member institutions and the wider HE sectors in the UK and Malaysia by undertaking capacity development, exchanging knowledge and best practices, fostering research and innovation, supporting student and academic mobility, exploring innovative models for trilateral and multilateral partnerships and facilitating endeavours to secure sustainable funding.

Objectives

The UK-Malaysia University Consortium Grant for Innovative Partnerships aim to further support the UKMUC to develop innovative collaborative initiatives among member institutions and the wider HE sector in the UK and Malaysia by undertaking collaborative initiatives that fall within the following three strands:

  1. Enhancing student outcomes (e.g. outward mobility, entrepreneurship)
  2. Driving research excellence (e.g. developing capacity, co-creating centres of excellence)
  3. Developing sustainable models of collaborations (e.g. innovative TNE, multilateral partnerships)

The collaborative initiatives must demonstrate evidence of benefit to the wider members of the UK-Malaysia University Consortium, as well as the UK and Malaysia HE sectors. Initiatives should ideally include efforts to:

  • Promote high quality mobility and exchange.
  • Develop capacity among students and academics
  • Share best practices and impactful stories within the sector.
  • Explore innovative trilateral ad multilateral collaborative opportunities
  • Enable sustainable funding.
  • Prioritise gender equality and Inclusion in higher education partnerships.
