The Design Innovation Pop-Up Studio, organized and facilitated by Dr Lynn-Sayers McHattie and Dr Marianne McAra of the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) Institute of Design Innovation brought together National Craft Institute (IKN) students from across the disciplines of weaving, rattan, batik, metal craft, wood craft and ceramics to explore the themes of innovation and design process in craft.
The Pop-Up Studio included masterclasses by 6 local designers of different disciplines and fields: Eleena Jamil of Eleena Jamil Architect, Fern Chua of Fern Design Studio, Nik Faiz of Ruzz Gahara, Sasibai Kimis of Earth Heir, film director Sherman Ong, and Suryani Senja Alias of Senijari and the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation. The students also worked together over the 5 day Pop-Up Studio to collaboratively construct a bamboo pavilion designed by Eleena Jamil Architect.
Photos of the pavilion and the rest of the Studio can be found on our Facebook page.
