The British Council encourages creative links, collaborations, and exchanges between the UK and Malaysia. One of the ways we facilitate this is by inviting and arranging for UK creative practitioners to participate in local literary and arts festivals, as speakers, performers, workshop facilitators and so on.
British Council is the founding partner of Cooler Lumpur Festival, and in 2018 we welcomed speculative fiction author Laura Lam to the festival. In the same year, we also brought award-winning poet, playwright for radio and the theatre, and broadcaster Lemn Sissay to participate in George Town Literary Festival.
We have also worked with Borak Arts Series, Freedom Film Festival, George Town Festival, and sent Malaysian writers for Momentum, the Edinburgh Festivals International Delegates Programme and Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections.
