How do I send copies of my TRF to institutions?

Institutions need original copies of your Test Report Form. Photocopies will not be accepted.

From the point of registration up to 2 years following the test date, you can ask us to send your results electronically or by post to up to five recognising organisations of your choice, free of charge; however, courier fees apply for physical copies.

If you took IELTS on Computer and would like to request this service, please include the relevant addresses and submit it on the Test Taker Portal. If you submit this application after the test date, please email to notify us your submission at info@britishcouncil.org.my.

We may accept requests to amend incorrect details on the Test Report Forms (TRF) issued to the test takers. This correction and amendment of details are limited to clerical errors, spelling mistakes, and incorrect details. What does my IELTS score mean?

You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each test section, reflecting your English proficiency.

Your TRF shows a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), as well as an overall IELTS band score. You can score whole band scores (for example, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half IELTS band scores (e.g., 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each test section.

Find out more about what your IELTS score means here

How long are your IELTS results valid?

Organisations will usually not accept your results if they are over two years old unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?

If you did not receive the expected score in your IELTS test, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked.

The fee for this service is MYR 430, which will be refunded if your score is increased for any test section. If your IELTS band score/s change because of an EOR, your EOR fee shall be refunded. Please wait for an email with instructions if your IELTS score changes. You will retain the original TRF regardless of change or no change in band score/s after EOR. A new TRF shall be issued in score change scenario and the latest TRF will invalidate the previously issued.

You must apply for a re-marking by six weeks after the test date, regardless of whether you have taken IELTS on Paper or Computer. Please refer to the table below on how to apply based on the type of test you have taken.

Test Type Method

IELTS on paper

IELTS on computer

IELTS for UKVI on computer

You can submit an UKVI EOR (Enquiry on Result) request through this link, https://www.eventsforce.net/britishcouncil/5473/home. We will review your request and process it by following the UKVI EOR procedure and policies.

The outcome of Enquiry on Result (EOR) can become available on the same day as your application and up to 21 days after your application.

Can I retake my IELTS test?

There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.

Please note that your IELTS score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take an IELTS practice test and assess your level.
