CEO Insights Series Malaysia event July 2023
British Council Malaysia and the British Malaysia Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) co-delivered a CEO Insights Series event in Kuala Lumpur, attracting over 70 Malaysian UK Alumni.
The theme of the event was ‘Building Blocks of Success: a CEO’s Career Narrative’ and was attended by mid-career professionals wishing to learn from iconic industry leaders whose career paths began with a UK education. The event offered an invaluable networking and development experience for our UK alumni community.
Speakers
The session featured Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman, the first female Country Chair and Senior Vice-President Upstream at Shell Malaysia and alumna of Imperial College London who shared her inspiring career journey, the challenges she faced and leadership insights. Siti expressed how Alumni UK’s ‘Connect, Learn, Share and Grow’ tagline resonated with her:
“Leadership is not about being perfect but about the willingness to connect with others, learn from experiences, share knowledge and grow collectively’.
The session moderator was Dash Dhakshinamoorthy, founder of StartupMalaysia.org and alumnus of the universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt.
British Council Malaysia and BMCC in partnership
CEO Insights Series events are usually exclusive to BMCC members. This UK Alumni event was a collaborative pilot to mark the British Council’s 75th anniversary in Malaysia. Following highly positive feedback on this unique initiative, similar and longer sessions of this type will be held with different inspirational speakers and recorded so that they can be shared more widely.
